Getting Your Opponent To Bluff
Most beginers that play poker think making a bluff on the river when they missed is a great way to take down big pots, but a bluff can be used in a lot of different ways.
For this tip is a way to get your opponent to bluff when you have a hand to take down the pot.You are playing no limit hold'em and say you are in early postion 10-K clubs you raise and you get two callers behind you and the big blind calls'so there are four of you in the hand. The flop comes out 6-8-j of clubs you have made your hand the flush,The big blind checks to you it is your turn to act,you should bet in this postion not check by betting in this postion you often disguise the strength of your hand more then if you check slow playing then come out firing if the turn card is a nothing card.
You are called by one opponent in late postion, what does he have he might have a J or maybe he has an A of Clubs and is on a flush draw. The next card is a 5 of diamonds a nothing card but could give your opponent a straight draw or made his straight or is still on the flush draw or high pair what should do,Come out betting again and again he calls.
The river card is a 2 of spades, here I would just check not because I think my opponent has a better hand but to try to show weakness.Because if he has top pair and you bet again he might fold or if he missed and you bet he will fold, but by checking he might think you missed and he is in postion and fire out a large bet to take down the pot with a bluff. Now you can come over the top with a raise or just call taking down a nice pot.
