General Experience Playing Here: 3
Playing at the Silverton was a pleasant experience, although the room was cramped the dealers and cocktail staff were very pleasant and the players were friendly and outgoing for the most part.
The room offers high hand jackpots with payouts for 4 of a kind or higher. The payouts are doubled between noon and 2pm daily.
The management was professional if not overly friendly.
If your visit to Las Vegas takes you south of the strip, you should give the Silverton poker room a visit.
Competition Rating: 3
Aggressiveness Rating: 2.5
Player Mix: 3
With its location being off the strip, the games are primarily made up of locals. The players at the $2/$4 game during a weekday afternoon were all locals with the exception of one tourist. Although the players were all locals, they did run the gamut from inexperienced to experienced. Two of the experienced players apparently played at the Silverton almost every day and these two were the most aggressive of the players.
The players were pretty easy to read and the more inexperienced players could be forced out of a hand, even in a $2/$4 game. There wasn’t a lot of pre-flop raising and usually 6-7 people would see the flop, when there was a pre-flop raise it generally would not affect the number of people seeing a flop.
There is money to be made for the experienced/disciplined player.
Room Condition: 3
The room is very cramped, the 5 tables are in a very small space. The room is almost fully enclosed, there are 4 very nice plasma TVs in the room, plus one very large screen TV, but you can’t see a TV from every seat. There are a few seats at 3 of the tables that are very difficult to get in and out of. There is a 6th table, set up directly outside the room, don’t know if it is used very much or not, but it is right next to slot machines and would be extremely noisy if used.
The tables are excellent and the chairs are extremely comfortable.
Dealer Rating: 3
The dealers were very friendly and didn’t make mistakes.
With it being a small room, the dealers rotated through the tables pretty frequently, so you could get to know them pretty easily if you played long enough. As is true in most “locals” poker rooms, the dealers knew the regulars pretty well and tended to have ongoing conversations with them.
Cocktail Service: 4
Although it was early afternoon on a weekday, there was a cocktail waitress that was stationed right in the poker room, for having only 5 tables (only 1 game going for a lot of the time) this made it very easy to get a drink anytime you wanted. Both of the waitresses that worked the room were very friendly.
Management Rating: 2
The manager on duty was professional but lacked personality. When asked questions about the room or anything about the game, it was almost as if he was reading the answer from a text book.
Comps: 3
The poker room offers $1/hour in comps which are earned by presenting your players card at the table. The card is swiped at the table to log your hours.
Another interesting “comp” is that you can earn tournament chips by playing in live games. There are daily tournaments at the Silverton, with a $30 buy-in. For that buy-in you only receive $500 in tournament chips but for every hour of live action you play you can redeem that for $500 in tournament chips. You can redeem up to 4 hours ($2000 in tournament chips) for play in any tournament.
