Overall Experience Here: 4.0
Playing here is almost like playing in a home game. The whole atmosphere is pretty friendly and nothing is ostentatious like what you might find at other poker rooms. We also like a service they provide here of phoning you on your cell phone when your turn is up. This is most convenient if you are driving in or you miss them paging you.
Soft Competition Rating: 4.0
We like a high soft competition rating when you have alot of players calling every hand. It makes for a table where there are many who are bound to make mistakes, since they are in the hand.
We found a high amount of callers here, at least 5 to see the flop; especially the tourists that sat at the tables. You will usually find tourists tend to call more often here than the locals. The locals will play tighter since they usually play on a regular basis.
Room Condition: 2.5
The room is practical and comfortable. They have swivel chairs which makes for easier sitting down and getting up out of the tables. We also liked the fact that the room was very close to the washrooms, so you could take a quick break and come back without missing too much.
Aggressiveness Rating: 4.0
We noticed the tourists liked to call quite a bit. So if someone raised, it was most likely going to be called. This leads to bigger pots, more player mistakes, and a money market for skilled players. However, at the same time, you'll also get more bad beats with players simply paying cards they had no business playing after calling your raise.
Player Mix: 5.0
At this poker room, you'll find an equal mix of tourists and locals playing at the tables. If there were 3 or 4 callers at the table, only 1 would be a local, the rest would be tourists.
Dealer Rating: 3.5
We found the Dealer's here to be cheerful and nice. They dealt the hands with not much mishap, and with the occasional misdeal. Games moved along at a good pace and we felt the Dealer's had the tables under control.
Cocktail Service: 2.5
Cocktail service here was pretty average. The waitresses were not spectacular but were okay. You didn't have to wait too long after your order to receive your drink, but they can be a bit quicker. They also responded to you pleasantly and weren't rude. Some of the older poker rooms we have found some of the waitresses are tired and don't have the energy to keep up a pleasant pretence. The waitresses at Palms are fine.
Management Rating: 4.0
Management served you well enough here and even will call your cell phone to tell you your turn is up. That's a pretty efficient service which we think many of the poker rooms should incorporate.
Comps: 3.5
$1/hour playing here to a maximum of $10.
Weekly draw for $100 for diamond flushes.
Make sure you ask them what their weekly jackpots are, they offer different ones all the time and you have to ask or you won't know about them.
