General Experience Playing Here: 1.5
Other than the ugly incident that occurred at our table between the dealer and a player (see below), our experience in the Paris poker room was okay. The room is a little too noisy and smoky for our liking but the competition was weak. But the bad taste left in my mouth after the incident will linger for quite a while. We will give the Paris room another try but it might be a while before we do so.
Competition Rating: 4.5
Aggressiveness Rating: 3.5
Player Mix: 4
The players at the Paris poker room gave the impression that they had watched a bit more TV than actually playing poker. They tended to overvalue big pre-flop hands when the flop didn’t hit them. One player in particular seemed to think that every decision required serious in depth analysis and took an excrutiatingly long time to act. The overall competition was weak and not overly aggressive.
Room Condition: 2.5
The poker area is located right in the middle of the casino and is right next to a bar. This makes the room extremely noisy and somewhat smoky.we were told that the room was going to move in the near future to give it more of a room quality. As it sits now though it is not the best place to play in, although the location does help bring in novice players. The tables are nice and the chairs are comfortable enough. There was even a digital clock on the manager’s podium, so you could actually see what time it was.
Dealer Rating: 1
The dealers were for the most part friendly and competent, but an incident happened that was inexcusable and results in the low rating. One of the dealers that we had completely lost control of a hand, starting to push the pot to a player (the aforementioned deep thinker), when we were still involved in the hand and had not acted. That situation was rectified, but after we acted, the deep thinker was taking his time and for some unknown reason the dealer became antagonistic towards that player and it quickly escalated to the point where the dealer twice threatened the player with physical violence. The player left the table and the dealer tried to convince the table that they player had it coming. The floor person was summoned over and the pot was sent my way and the game continued, with the same dealer. In our opinion, the player had done nothing wrong, except to be annoying and the dealer was completely out of line.
Cocktail Service: 4
The cocktail waitresses were friendly and came by frequently.
Management Rating: 1
Once again, the management team seemed friendly and competent but they completely mishandled the incident with the dealer and the player in my game. The dealer continued to deal not only at our table but it appeared that he was going to continue his shift. Under no circumstance should a dealer threaten a player with physical violence and I don’t feel they should continue to work after having done so.
